Healthy, Fast Casual dining spots in CT seem to be few and far between.  The struggle is real finding a quick spot for lunch or dinner.  The Simple Greek, an authentic Greek food fast casual chain created by CNBC’s “The Profit”, Marcus Lemonis, that originated in Pittsburgh, has quickly grown to 13 locations including two in CT.

The Simple Greek, in the Staples Shopping Center in Norwalk, is individually owned by John and Maria Pertesis, and their son, George, a recent graduate from Fairfield U.

It is important to note, that this location is not your typical “chain” owned by an absentee owner who only looks at this as an investment, but a true Greek family affair. Maria, John and George are in the kitchen all day every day, focusing on making the authentic recipes and maintaining the quality of the offerings.  John and Maria have plenty of local food experience, retiring after owning a number of diners in Fairfield County, and looked at The Simple Greek model as a way to pass on their love of Greek food dining to their son and to be part of the millennial movement looking for fast, healthy “grab and go” dining.

The Simple Greek concept is a “build your own” pita wrap or bowl, with the authentic marinated chicken and gyro beef and lamb prepared daily on the vertical rotisserie.  Lentils, rice and assorted greens can be used as a base or toppings.

Unlimited fresh add ins include hummus, tzatziki, Kalamata olives, cucumber and tomato salad, vegetables, and feta.

Sauces include garlic cream and Greek dressing.

Freshly grilled warm pita comes with every bowl or you can opt for any combination of above as a white or wheat pita wrap.

Multiple sides include traditional Greek specialties like Spanakopita, Dolmades, Greek fries, which are fresh cut fries topped with oregano, feta and oil and vinegar, and traditional or spicy hummus with pita.

Two authentic soups, a creamy homemade lemonis soup with Greek chicken, eggs, and lemon rice, and a gutsy vegetarian lentil soup, will be especially welcome on the cool Fall days ahead.

In keeping with the Greek tradition, desserts are sweet and freshly made, including Rizogalo, a delicious thick rice pudding, Baklava, and a special, Baklava Cheesecake topped with walnuts and drizzled with Greek honey.

And for an alternative to bowls or wraps or just as an afternoon treat, The Simple Greek also offers a Greek yogurt option, also as a “build your own” concept with toppings like berries, chocolate chips, Nutella, honey, granola or assorted vegetables.

The Simple Greek offers both take out or dine-in options including delivery by UberEATS, but a visit to the bright clean location may convince you dine in and pull up one of the brightly colored robin’s egg blue chairs and enjoy your bowl or wrap immediately.
